The Toumai® surgical robot by MicroPort MedBot has reached an important milestone with its CE certification for telesurgery. This achievement places Toumai® among the first robotic surgical systems certified to enable remote surgery in Europe. The certification confirms that the system meets European requirements for telesurgery and marks a significant step forward in the evolution of robot-assisted surgery.
New opportunities for specialized care
The CE certification creates new opportunities to make surgical expertise available across greater distances. Where the required technical infrastructure is in place, specialist surgeons can support healthcare institutions remotely or perform surgical procedures from a distance. This contributes to improved access to specialized care and strengthens collaboration between hospitals and surgical teams.
In addition, telesurgery offers new opportunities for training, mentoring and proctoring, enabling knowledge and expertise to be shared more effectively.
The potential of this technology has already been demonstrated during the first intra-European telesurgery procedures performed between ORSI Academy in Melle and AZORG in Aalst, successfully showcasing the possibilities of remote surgery.
