Surgical hemostatic product – CollaStat®

Rapid hemostasis. Maximum control. Reduced operating time.

CollaStat® is a resorbable, flowable collagen–thrombin hemostatic matrix intended for use during surgical procedures. It combines mechanical tamponade with biochemical coagulation activation to stop bleeding quickly and reliably, even in cases of active or difficult-to-control bleeding.

Thanks to its simple preparation, rapid application, and consistent performance, CollaStat® supports surgeons and operating room teams in achieving more efficient procedures, improved visualization of the surgical field, and shorter hemostasis times.

The product is CE-marked in accordance with the European Medical Device Regulation (MDR) and is clinically used across multiple surgical disciplines worldwide.

Description
Overview

CollaStat® has been developed with a focus on clinical effectiveness, ease of use, and operational efficiency. The system consists of a dual-syringe device containing collagen–thrombin powder and a calcium chloride solution which, after mixing, forms a flowable hemostatic matrix.

It offers:

  • Rapid hemostasis within 1–5 minutes
  • Synergistic action of collagen and thrombin
  • Simple 4-step preparation (< 30 seconds)
  • Flowable application for precise placement
  • Resorbable and biodegradable
  • Suitable for various bleeding patterns (from oozing to active bleeding)

Clinical Applications

CollaStat® is used for hemostasis during, among others:

  • Spinal surgery
  • Neurosurgery
  • Gynecology and oncological procedures
  • Urology
  • Thyroid surgery
  • General and abdominal surgery
  • Thoracic and cardiac surgery

The product has been clinically validated in multiple prospective and randomized studies in spinal, cardiac, and thoracic surgery.

Advantages

Rapid and effective hemostasis

  • Control of active bleeding within minutes
  • Collagen absorbs exudate and creates a physical matrix
  • Thrombin converts fibrinogen into fibrin → accelerated clot formation
  • Suitable for both diffuse and targeted bleeding

Ease of use and workflow efficiency

  • Ready for use after simple mixing
  • No complex reconstitution or additional preparation required
  • Direct application via a precision syringe
  • Reduced operating room time and fewer instrument changes
  • Minimal learning curve for OR teams

Reliable biocompatibility

  • Highly purified atelocollagen
  • Low immunogenicity (telopeptides removed)
  • Non-infectious
  • Fully resorbable within approximately ± 2 weeks
  • Good tissue integration

Operational efficiency

  • Faster hemostasis → improved visibility of the surgical field
  • Reduced blood loss
  • Less need for additional hemostatic agents
  • Potential reduction in procedure time and costs
  • Practical packaging compatible with standard OR workflows

Safety and control

  • Local action with no systemic effects
  • Residues easily removed by irrigation or aspiration
  • No automatic data collection or digital dependency
  • Compatible with existing surgical protocols
